This issue of Acta Mathematica Universitatis Comenianae is devoted to ALGORITMY 97, Conference
on Scientific Computing, held in the West Tatra Mountains (Zuberec) in September 2-5, 1997. The 14th
ALGORITMY conference were organized by Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava, in cooperation with
Comenius University, Bratislava, University of Economy, Bratislava and University of Technology, Zvolen.
The scientific programme of the conference was devoted to the computational realisations of algorithms solving the real problems from various branches of sciences, technology, medicine, economy and finance. The main topics included methods of
The proceedings published in this volume of AMUC cover the majority of plenary talks and, by the editors
opinion, represent the state-of-art of scientific computing in all mentioned areas. The contributions of other
participants have been included in special publication ALGORITMY 97 (Proceedings of contributed papers
and posters) published by Slovak University of Technology before the conference.
